37 Creative Ways to Repurpose Your Content

8 minute read.

One of the biggest challenges business owners share with me in regards to their content marketing and/or social media marketing is consistency. At this point, it’s widely known that in order for your organic content distribution to be effective, you have to be consistent in delivering your messaging. You need to have multiple touch points with your target market to successfully convert them to a paying client. There’s no better way to do that than to consistently show up and share valuable content.

This is a daunting commitment to many because, hey, business owners are human and it’s hard to commoditize creativity — so keeping a consistent publishing schedule of original content sounds understandably exhausting.

But guess what? You don’t have to be a content creating machine in order to consistently provide value! You’re familiar with the reduce, reuse, recycle principle, right? Well if you want to have a more sustainable content strategy, it will help you a great deal to apply this same principle to your content. In the content creation biz, we call it repurposing.

Repurposing your content not only maximizes its value, but it gives you more content with less effort.

Wouldn’t you love to see your content or social media calendar filled without having to go through the painstaking process of constantly coming up with a new idea, forcing yourself to create content around that idea, and moving on to the next new idea?

Of course, you do!

That being said, there are so many ways you can repurpose your content and make your life a hell of a lot easier.

The following are 37 ways to repurpose content:

1. Create a Guide or Ebook from Old Blog Posts

Compile your old content into a longer form, value-packed super content. An ebook or a hands-on guide makes a great lead magnet too.

2. Turn a Blog Post into a Podcast

People consume content in all sorts of ways. Turning existing text content into audio is a great way to get more mileage out of your blog posts.

3. Use a Blog as a Live Video Topic

Similar to creating a podcast out of your blog content, you can do the same with a live video. Use the blog as talking points for your live video.

4. Turn Statistics into Graphics

Statistics are far easier for people to consume as graphics. It’s easy to make them look pretty in Canva!

5. Make an Infographic

Informational text context can almost always be made more compelling with a graphic.

6. Guest Post on Topics You’ve Already Written or Talked About

You can’t copy/paste your blog articles to other sites — that’s a no-no for SEO. But you can contribute content to other publications using the basic outline of your original content.

7. Turn Client Questions into an FAQ

Possibly the most practical way to repurpose content is by canning some answers to the questions you have to answer the most. That’s how frequently asked question sections are born!

8. Pull Quotes from Text Content for Social Media Images

The internet loves to share text-based images. When you take a quote from content, throw it into Canva, and make an image out of it, it’s one of the easiest ways to engage people.

9. Yelp, Google, or Facebook reviews as Social Media Posts

Not sure what to post on social media? Why not support your brand on social media by sharing what people say about you?

10. Turn a Conversation to Social Media Post, Blog, Video, or Podcast

Most people don’t realize that some of the conversations they have with folks are valuable, shareable content on social media. There are ways to share the contents of your conversation without revealing identities, if necessary — however — it’s always safer to ask permission if you want to use identities.

11. Interview an Expert for a Blog Post

Running short on expert advice to offer yourself? Ask someone else! Interviewing someone to provide their perspective is a great way to provide original value on your blog without having to produce it yourself. Here’s an interview I did recently.

12. Feature the Best of your Content in a Newsletter

Have a great blog post? Have a great video? Include it in a newsletter to your email list. It’s a great way to promote your blog and your social channels.

13. Turn a Video into a Blog Article or Email Content

Just like you can use an existing blog article as a video script, you can also turn video into written content. I used to write emails for Swolenormous, who has tons and tons have video content to pull from. It was fun to watch his videos and create content from them.

14. Turn Old Blog Articles into an Email Series

A great way to get some more mileage out of a dated article is to break it down into an email series. When you want people to take action from emails you send them, you need to give them some value. So why not draw from the value you already have?

15. Reshare

This is probably the easiest way to repurpose content. Simply reshare your evergreen content. As long as the content still has value, it’s still worth sharing.

16. Revive your Old Content with Updated Information

Some of your old content might be a bit stale but still have value to offer if you just dust them off and spruce them up. By adding updated statistics, including fresh images or graphics, and maybe even adding a little new information, you can make that old content good as new.

17. Pull Content Snippets for Social Media Shares

Want to promote a new blog post? A new video? A new event? Pull a snippet from the content to tease the audience for more.

18. Ask a Question, Take a Poll or Survey

This is such a simple yet powerful way to engage people. Not only does this tactic invite people to engage directly with your brand, but it also gives you content and/or data you can use for more repurposing!

19. Draw from User-Generated Content

Engage your audience and get more content by encouraging your audience to supply you with content. This can be done with a hashtag, by asking people to share an experience, or with a contest. You can also simply ask to share a follower’s post and credit the appropriate party.

20. Turn Internal Data and Testimonials into Case Studies

Each client experience you’ve had has valuable information that will interest your future clients. By using data from your work with clients as well as their positive feedback, you can build a delicious case study to add to your portfolio.

21. Turn Interviews to Expert Advice Ebooks

Been collecting interviews for your blog, podcast, or video series? Why not compile them into an ultimate ebook of expert tips?

22. Turn Social Media Posts into Flyers or Physical Handouts

People don’t often think about how they can repurpose their content to physical print formats, but it’s important not to rule that out. Many of the social posts I create in Canva for Olympia Gymnastics Rock Hill are ones I resize and print to use as either posters in the gym or handouts to the classes.

If you’re not familiar with Canva’s magic resize feature, I highly recommend it. It requires a premium subscription to Canva ($12.99/month), but once you realize all the ways that Canva can help you repurpose content it’s totally worth the cost.

23. Publish your Blog Post as a LinkedIn Article Post

Unlike other publishing platforms, LinkedIn is a place where you can copy/paste your blog articles. LinkedIn is an ecosystem independent of Google and can reach an entirely different audience than just on your own blog. It’s quick and easy, so why not post every blog post to LinkedIn too? Here’s an example of an article of mine I republished on LinkedIn.

24. Publish your Blog Post as a Medium Post

Like LinkedIn, Medium is a publishing platform of its own. It can reach a different audience and won’t penalize your SEO. Again, free and a quick copy/paste — might as well!

25. Create a Roundup Post of your Best Blog Posts

Create some cornerstone content for your blog by compiling all your best recent posts. Not only engaging to your audience but good for SEO!

26. Turn Videos into Gifs or Short Clips

There’s plenty of third-party software out there where you can turn videos into gifs or edit them down. Make use! Experiment. Everyone loves a good gif, and even better, everyone loves a good meme.

27. Turn a Blog Post into a Series

Some articles are better delivered as multiple articles. For example, I wrote a piece on nine free tools you can use as an entrepreneur, and this is just part one. I plan to provide more tools in a future blog post.

Creating a series can give you more content and give your readers something specific to expect.

28. Use Old Photos for Backgrounds

When you create text-based images, it’s nice to have a background image to further contribute to your brand and set you apart from your competitors.

29. TBT

Throwback Thursdays are the most commonplace repurposing tactic out there! Sharing an old is entertaining in any context. And it’s easy!

30. Use a Blog Snippet for Facebook Ad Copy

Long-form copy can prove successful for many Facebook ads. You don’t have to create entirely new copy though, you can reuse excerpts from already existing content.

31. Turn a Blog Post into a Lead Magnet (Downloadable PDF)

Have a value-packed blog article that’s proven to engage your audience? Turn it into a lead magnet! Offer it as a helpful guide in exchange for leads to add to your email list.

32. Turn your Blog into a Physical Book

When you’ve been blogging for some time, you eventually generate enough valuable content to leverage more attention. So why not compile that content into a book? It’s something to consider as you create goals for your content strategy.

33. Publish Updates

This is a simple and easy one. What’s going on with you? What’s new in your world? What are you working on? Share it! Status updates can be engaging and humanize your brand.

34. Upload Videos Directly to Each Platform

The algorithms on each social platform support native videos over external links to videos. To get the most out of your video content, upload the file to each platform — IE. Facebook, YouTube, LinkedIn, etc.

35. Make an Ad out of a Social Media Post

You know those posts that Facebook and Instagram encourage you to boost? These can actually be helpful for knowing which posts would have success as an ad.

36. Reshare a Live Video

When you record a live video on Facebook, you can share that video to other pages and groups — either as a live feed or as a playback.

37. Share Before and After Pictures

Everyone loves a good before n’ after. Share an old photo and a current photo side by side to drive engagement.

Summary
